Methley Park at Spire Healthcare

Methley Park Receives Rave Reviews for Informative Style Plastic Surgery Open Evenings

Patients Flood to Hospital for advice
By James Watson Editor "Pick Up Yorkshire"

A hospital in Methley is currently enjoying unrivalled popularity in the local community and further a field thanks to a new public service scheme they have recently launched.

As many of us are aware, cosmetic surgery has become an ever popular procedure no longer afforded only to the rich and usually famous. Now, cost and accessibility makes cosmetic operations easier to ascertain for the average person. Yet, too few know the risks and relevant planning before the procedure.

However, Methley Park Hospital in Leeds is now offering a service that enlightens prospective patients of the risks of cosmetic surgery as well as equipping them with the relevant information to approach their consultants with. This has led to a fervent interest from the public and it's little wonder the programme has to be extended.

They began the workshop, which consists of a lecture from an expert consultant before breaking off into a tour and one-on-one question session, as a monthly assembly hoping to attract a varied party of individuals. However, the programme currently runs three-weekly and plans are afoot to extend it to fortnightly to accommodate demand as many people are missing out.

It is a unique service that goes further to educate people about the preparation required for surgery as well as possible risks. James Kendall, who organises the sessions said:

"There is a grave misconception in public about cosmetic surgery and we are trying to right this. We want to empower the people to understand procedures, encourage them to talk to consultants and acclimatise them to the kinds of facilities where the surgery will take place."

The hospital itself carries out many of the operations that are discussed but it is a selfless service they are providing. There is little wonder why the presentations and workshops are so popular as there is so little that is tactile and interactive about cosmetic surgery information.

Numerous pamphlets, online accounts as well as documentaries often shine a light on such procedures but there aren't many places where you can go and learn, from experts first hand, about procedures.

One of the main things they offer is a chance to speak to a consultant that will operate before deciding to go ahead (many companies will give you initial consultations with Customer Service Advisors or nurses and won't meet their surgeon until day of operation). They do their background research on the surgeon before choosing to go ahead, which includes things to look for, are they member of BAAPS and BAPRAS, do they have relevant qualifications (FRCS Plast), are they on GMC specialist register?

Finally they stress that you make sure all your questions are answered by a surgeon before deciding to go ahead.

This has led to many people taking their time to carefully assess plans to get cosmetic surgery.

The sessions are free but you need to book and it is advisable to book well in advance due to heightened popularity. To learn more about the sessions or to book a place contact them on 01977664245.

Hosptital Offers Advice on Cosmetic Surgery

Methley Park Hospital is holding open evenings for people who are interested in finding out more about cosmetic surgery.

The open evenings aim to help people make informed choices about whether or not to have cosmetic surgery.

The evenings consist of a presentation by development manager James Kendall on what to look for in a plastic surgeon and a presentation by a consultant surgeon on procedures of interest.

The evenings will focus on different areas, including faces, breasts, and body reshaping, such as liposuction and tummy tucks.

Patients can also tour the units, including bedrooms and theatres and have the chance of a one-on-one mini-consultation with the plastic surgeon of their choice to ask personal questions.

The evenings are held in a relaxed and informal setting with wine and canapés. Because of demand, the evenings will soon be increased from every three weeks to fortnightly.
