Modern Face Lifts: Less is More

Gone are the days of the tight, wind swept face lifted look. The modern patient wants rejuvenation not stigmatization. A natural youthful appearance with quick recovery and minimal "down time" are the current buzz words. How is this achieved?

To satisfy these demands, the team of surgeons at Methley Park Hospital in Leeds have helped pioneer the MACS (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension) face lift procedure. More than 400 patients have now undergone the technique at Methley Park and the hospital was the first in Yorkshire and one of the first in the UK to offer this revolutionary technique. Why are past patients so satisfied?

The MACS lift has shorter scars than a standard face and neck lift located in the side burn area and across the natural crease in front of the ear. The lift repositions the deep facial skeleton (SMAS plication) and can be done as a day case where the patient can go home the same day or with only one night in hospital, under general or local anaesthetic. Patients are usually back at work within three weeks. Because the deep facial structures such as the cheek fat pad and jowl area are repositioned to a more youthful area, the effect is a natural younger refreshed appearance with well hidden short scars and quick recovery. It has the advantage of also being more cost effective than a full face lift.

The MACS lift is usually combined with eyelid rejuvenation (Blepharoplasty) and can be combined with forehead plasty and frown line correction (Endoscopic Brow Lift)

Another exciting new development pioneered in Yorkshire at Methley Park, by Mr Oliver Fenton, Mr Alan Phipps and Mr LeRoux Fourie as part of the MACS technique is Volumetric Facial Rejuvenation by using Micro Fat Grafts where living fat cells are harvested using atraumatic fine cannulas and then injected in the areas of the face where fat loss is seen as part of the ageing process such as the lines and hollows under the eyes; the deep lines from the nose to the side of the mouth (nasolabial lines) and the fine lines around the mouth and upper lip. The Micro Fat Grafts are living fat cells and thus offer a permanent solution to sunken facial features in contrast to synthetic facial fillers that have to be repeated every three to six months.

Modern face lift techniques thus can give a natural rejuvenation of the face with enhancement of the sunken lines around the mouth and eyes with shorter theatre time, minimal hospital stay and quicker recovery.
